BikeTrace
BikeTrace is a service provider making bicycles smarter and digitally connected. We are pioneering the integration of bicycles into smart cities. Our vision is to create an ecosystem of digitally interconnected bicycles, what we at BikeTrace call “The Internet of Bicycles”. At present we are developing a Smart Bicycle Lock that can be permanently mounted on a bike and track/trace its location in the event of loss or theft.
BikeTrace's Story
“My journey started from very humble beginnings in Windhoek the capital of Nambia (South West Africa) where I was born. My passion for bicycles started early in life. As far as I can remember, my first encounter with a bicycle was a memorable one, and it really felt like I had seen it before. I was just 3 years old at the time when I saw this child-sized bicycle in a bike shop in Walvis Bay, Namibia. Intuitively, I knew it was the right size for me and I also knew exactly what to do with it. This new ‘object’ was strangely familiar, but when remembering this I am more convinced that riding bikes was just a part of my DNA.
BIKETRACE combines my passion for bicycles with my frustration of being a victim of bicycle theft on multiple occasions. Bike theft is a very common form of property crime that many of you can relate to. I am convinced that by equipping bicycles with devices that are capable of sensing, communicating and computing data we can create an ecosystem of digitally interconnected bicycles or what I would call “The Internet of Bicycles”. This will result in more secure bicycles and safer local communities.”
