Ence
Ence is a Norwegian marketplace that offers everyday products of good quality. They work to gather both ethical and as sustainable producers as possible in one place, with the aim of making the path to ethical choices shorter for Norwegian consumers.
Ence is a platform for knowledge about and access to transparent products. They think that the customer should be provided with all information necessary to make good choices as a conscious consumer. Their vision is for sustainable brands to take over a bigger part of the market, and for customers to choose them over all-profit brands.
Ence's Story
“The company was founded June 2020. It started with my personal experiences with trying to find ethical and sustainable brands to shop from but feeling like it was unfair that the process was so time-consuming. People who want to make good conscious choices when shopping, should not have to use hours of background checking and surfing from one webshop to another to find products they need.
A part of the solution I saw for this was a marketplace with transparent brands. This would spare the costumer of time; by collecting all the products they need in one place and doing the background checking for them, and knowledge; by introducing them to brands they may not have heard of before, and provide them with information about sustainability that the dishonest brands do not want to provide for them. I recently launched the platform and am now working to make the platform more robust and better equipped for a higher number of customers.
Our most important criteria for partners is transparency. We can try to tell our customers about green eco environment-friendly products all we want, but the approach that builds the most trust and comes off as the most trustworthy is being as honest and open as possible. We do our own evaluations of our partners based on our knowledge about sustainability and ethical work, and we hold a certain standard, but the most important thing for us is to present the customer with as much information as possible so that they can make up their own mind as well. In short, we convey knowledge, not good (only) conscience. “
