In Greentech Innovators we have developed a biotechnology solution for processing of food waste into single cell protein and organic fertilizer. Protein to be used as aquaculture feed and fertilizer to be used for production of microalgae. The method will increase food production and reduce GHG from landfills, or incineration of food waste. Globally Methane from landfills is contributing to 11 % of the potent GHG Methane. We can produce protein and omega-3 two highly demanded ingredients in aquaculture feed substituting fish meal and soy, both giving environmental concerns.
Greentech 's Story
We have been working with aquaculture since I was a kid and see aquaculture as one of the best options for increased food production. I have been working for decades to improve utilization of by-products from aquaculture and fisheries and have been developing several products from fish byproduct as feed and for human consumption. I realized that we still have to improve utilization of food waste as this is a resource causing environmental problems by GHG and water pollution due to the way we are treating the waste. We are working to scale this solution and will do fermentation instead of today’s local solution with composting and incineration of food waste. The recent will be prohibited due to new EU regulations taking place in 2023. A great business opportunity for us. We are in partnership with the local waste management company BIR in Bergen,Norway.
