LiveLoveRecycle
LiveLoveRecycle is a crowdsourced recycling platform that links together stakeholders of the recycling process.
They offer a free, efficient and reliable collection recyclables service to more than 20,000 people in Beirut. With 200 requests per day, they were able to save more than 500 tons of waste from polluting our sea and landfills. They also managed to create jobs for 436 men and women from vulnerable communities while providing our collectors with electrical bikes to reduce CO2 emission. They also participated in many events and campaigns and they delivered more than 120 workshops for different schools, businesses, and households on how to reuse and recycle.
LiveLoveRecycle's Story
In 2015, their country Lebanon was facing a massive waste crisis and they were really troubled by the situation and wanted to do something about it. So, they started sorting their waste at home but they couldn’t find any proper way to dispose of our recyclables.
This is how the idea of LiveLoveRecycle came to them. It consists of a mobile application that allows the citizens to request a pickup for their recyclables.
They developed the app but didn’t have enough funds to launch the operations until 2018 when they received a grant from WFP (World Food Program) and BMZ (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development).
This allowed them to recruit 416 drivers from vulnerable communities to work as collectors through the app and 20 women who cooked daily for them. They also bought an entire fleet of electrical vehicles (bikes and trucks) and trained their team on how to sort the collected waste.
Few months after obtaining the grant, they started their operations in Beirut free of charge to encourage people to sort their waste and start recycling.
Today they can proudly say that LiveLoveRecycle is serving more than 20.000 Beirut citizens.
