Nenu is a social impact enterprise that is enabling access to clean and affordable cooking solutions for underserved households in Africa.
The company produces energy saving stoves that consumes less fuels and emits less greenhouse gases. In 4 years the company has produced and distributed over 45,000 energy saving stoves through a network of distributors and retailers in Nigeria.
And in order to scale its business across West Africa, Nenu is currently seeking $500,000 from impact investors.
In 2014, I traveled to my village in southern Nigeria to notice with shock the disappearance of a forest that once surrounded my community. While growing up in the village, this forest offered a hunting space for my friends and I to hunt squirrels and birds on Saturdays. But today, the forest has been completely destroyed for production of firewood and charcoal.
Therefore, in 2014 I set out to address the issues of severe deforestation resulting from the unsustainable use of biomass as cooking fuels. In 2015, I developed an energy efficient biomass cook stove that consumes 60% less firewood. And to date my venture has produced and distributed over 45,000 energy saving stoves in Nigeria.
