RecyGlo
At RecyGlo, we’re committed to providing environmentally friendly recycling solutions to businesses and individuals using our innovative logistics solution and marketplace for waste and second-hand objects, as well as a training platform in South East Asia. Founded in May 2017, our mission is to process the materials in a safe, non-hazardous manner — with an aim to keep the world environmentally clean. We now serve more than 450 business customers and positively impact more than 250,000 people’s lives, and counting.
RecyGlo provides a complete range of services linked to the Circular Economy. We are manufacturing bins from low-value plastic, set them at our clients’ offices, train the staff to waste segregation and raise awareness about the environment. In Myanmar, we collect the bins, measure the waste and transform trash into data. Nothing is wasted, when you measure it! The dashboards provided to our clients help them to get insight into their consumption and we offer additional consultancy services to reduce their impact, improve their supply chain or change their habits. Depending on the waste collected, we compost, recycle or reuse it to close the loop!
We also created Oh My Trash, an app that connects informal scaffolders to junk shops in order to facilitate their job and earn extra money. The app, available in Beta mode at the moment, is a great tool to integrate informal recyclers and value their effort. This community is often discriminated against and their valuable help isn’t fully integrated into government practices. We wanted to support the huge amount of informal work they are doing by facilitating their daily tasks and creating value where most people think there isn’t.
RecyGlo's Story
The idea to found RecyGlo came from our own founder’s backyard! Ma Yamin, our CEO, used to see her household waste dumped in her courtyard and sitting there waiting for the informal garbage collector to come and pick it up in the hope of reselling it. Waste gradually became a pile, as most of it was organic or of low value. The city’s garbage trucks were not coming frequently enough and no separation at the source was made. That’s when Ma Yamin realized that the loop was incomplete.
In South-East Asia, waste is an ever-growing issue. Consumption of manufactured products is booming, while most of the cities and rural areas don’t have the proper waste management systems to separate, collect and recycle yet. At RecyGlo, our founders and our team believe that actions must be taken now. We can’t keep consuming more and more, without thinking about the impact of our choices. We advocate for better consumption, of course, but also to think about where our waste goes (and the answer definitely isn’t “in Ma Yamin’s backyard”). We believe that change must come from companies, by rethinking their supply chain, but also about the way they manage their factories and offices’ waste. Our goal is to create smart and simple solutions for companies to manage and reduce their trash, gain knowledge from it and share it with their collaborators. To do so, we believe that technology and software are a great way to implement easy-to-use solutions to monitor, analyse and reduce litter.
Our founders believe in a cleaner world, where you can learn practice at work and incorporate them at home, where children are taught at a young age about the danger global warming represents, and where frontline communities are fully integrated.
