Smart Farming System
Smart Farming System is designing connected urban farms and they have installed the first prototype of their patented system at La Caverne, the largest vertical farms in Paris. Their tailor-made modules allow them to fit into underused premises in the heart of the urban fabric without prior work. Their approach is holistic support for urban farmers with a turnkey system coupled with a control interface and a subscription on plant nutrients and consumables. Their farms aim to be managed by a self-farmer capable of taking care of all the necessary tasks. Their remotely controlled systems minimize the need.
SFS develops an intelligent farm for a resilient future in the heart of the SmartCity to provide food rich in vitamins & nutrients. The farm blends in the city structure, in any weather condition, and be rapidly deployable (-24h without prior work), allowing to revitalize urban areas. Its unique design integrates better in highly-dense areas rather than other vertical farming solutions such as containers & plant towers. Its ready to plug-in and go-to-market design allows a simple utilization and creates an entrepreneurs-led ultra-local economy in a time when the consumer asks for the relocalization of the production and lower carbon emissions. It controls the growth cycle of the product (~7days), drastically cutting the waste and losses. Its aeroponics system functions with a low-energy consumption model, it uses less 97% water than traditional agriculture and produces a pesticide-free, eco-responsible product. Its intelligent component allows to continuously optimize the growth process.
Smart Farming 's Story
Recent events have highlighted the fragility of the global supply chain and the possibility of sudden food shortages.
Smart Farming System designs tailor-made connected and intelligent urban farm for a resilient future in the heart of the Smart City. With its unique design, in partnership with Bruynzeel Storage Systems, the farm blends in the city structure as it fits into underused premises, optimizing the use of the urban space in densely-populated areas. Smart Farming System recently won the call for the project of Gecina “basements of tomorrow” which aims to find better purposes of the undergrounds. Other vertical farming solutions such as containers and plant towers have shown struggles to blend into the city’s mesh.
Smart Farming System developed solid partnerships that allow the company to benefit from a just-in-time simplified and replicable industrialization process. The farming module operates in any weather conditions and is deployable in less than 24 hours without prior installation work in 120 countries. This allows to secure rapidly a stable food supply in crisis-hit areas but also its installation in arid or polar regions as well as the revitalization of specific neighborhoods.
With the UN demographic data in mind, Smart Farming System’s high-yielding crops produce on 100m2 as much as on a 10,000m2 traditional farm. Furthermore, its aeroponics systems function with a low-energy consumption model ( 1kw/ per linear meter ) that allows 100% of the nutritive mist to be assimilated by the plant. The module tackles water scarcity as it uses less 97% water than traditional agriculture with zero discharge of gray water. In addition, the module becomes autonomous, constantly optimizing its system parameters and disease prediction capabilities, ensuring a fluid machine-to-machine relationship.
The module has been designed with a go-to-market approach, encompassing a control interface and a subscription on plant nutrients and consumables to allow anyone to become a self-farmer. Smart Farming Systems provides assistance through its remotely controlled systems. In addition, the team chose to have an operator-centered approach with its feet “always on the ground”. Consequently, Smart Farming Systems enables the creation of an ultra-local economy, creates short-circuits, and strives entrepreneurship within local communities.
The custom modules provide a secure supply of pesticide-free food rich in vitamins & nutrients, closest to the consumer. Thanks to a short-circuit of distribution, Smart Farming System has opted to use seeds from a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, focusing on their nutritive, gustative and highly-nutritional features rather than its conservation period.
Smart Farming System ’s eco-responsible and human-centered approach puts it at the nexus of a virtuous ecosystem of social actors and innovators. As a matter of fact, SFS has teamed up with partners such as TooGoodToGo or Phoenix to handle its waste and continues to expand its social responsibility. Today, we need each other to build a more resilient society.
